Muhyiddin Proposes Scorecard To Gauge Performance UMNO Wings

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19 – Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has proposed that a scorecard system be introduced to evaluate theperformance of every level of leadership within the Umno Wanita, Pemuda and Puteri wings.

He said the card would evaluate the involvement and performance of every member of the party wings in key areas namely the economy, education, religion, culture, sports, social services, family planning, environment protection and race relations.

“With the introduction of the scorecard, every leader’s performance can be evaluated for the next two-year period. Those showing strong performance would be given due recognition and appreciation.

“Consider this initiative as one of our sincere efforts to raise the party’s image and build up public confidence in the party,” he said in his speech at the simultaneous opening of the delegates meeting of the Umno Wanita, Pemuda and Puteri wings in conjunction with the Umno general assembly 2010.

Also present were the the prime minister’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and the deputy prime minister’s wife, Puan Sri Norainee Abdul Rahman.

Muhyiddin, who is also the Umno deputy president, was confident that if the system were to be fully implemented, it would lead to new quantum leap in the level of activity and effectiveness of the party machinery.

He also called on the members of the Umno Wanita, Pemuda and Puteri movements to close ranks and strengthen the respective wings.

“Let there be not the slightest feeling of anger among us, let there be not the slightest feeling of jealousy that can lead to destruction, let there be not the slightest feeling of vengeance that can be damaging,” he said.

He said the party wings must play a more active role in championing the cause of the party especially in the increasingly challenging political climate.

Muhyiddin said all the negative issues and perceptions hurled at Umno must be dispelled immediately, in fact, the party wings must always play a more aggressive role to strengthen Umno and develop a positive public perception of the party.

“All of you not only form the bastion of defence, but are in the forefront of the party’s struggles.

“We have a massive task and there are many challenges. Certainly, this massive task can be implemented easily and effectively if we are all united, and pool our resources in achieving this noble vision,” he added.
